Angela from Merakel

Angela Slagter is a manager from Merakel. This is an initiative from parents for parents who have a child with a mental or several disabilities. We give parents respite while their child is taken care of by the employers of Merakel . So we create a win-win situation. Angela always had different jobs in the health sector. She has a son with several disabilities, therefore she has developed lots of tools how to arrange healthcare and how to help other people in their search within the possibilities that the Dutch laws and regulations have. Beside her regular work, she has done several kinds of voluntary work like escort young people and set up new initiatives as a governor in different settings.

“For me this project is very attractive because when you work with young people with disabilities it’s always a search for each individual how they learn. Often they can’t talk en need other ways to learn and develop. You have to be creative and inventive and we are always looking at new forms of creative learning environments. The cooperation with different countries from Europe can give us new methods and refreshing ways in the way we are working with our target audience. And the reciprocity between the countries is something where we are looking forward to. (Angela)
